December 2023 had fewer tax developments in number but a couple of the most important pronouncements of the year. IRS announced that those who received the Employee Retention Credit in error could generally repay only 80 percent of the funds improperly received. IRS also announced that about 5 million taxpayers will see abatement of a failure to pay penalty for 2020 and 2021 returns.
